Greysafe is a not for profit organisation that has been established with the aim of preventing the abuse, neglect and exploitation of older Australians. Through advocacy, community awareness campaigns and a high profile media presence, we aim to build lasting and sustainable change so that older Australians feel safe, valued and can continue to have a meaningful life.
Greysafe was established in response to a close family member of the Founder being exposed to years of elder abuse. Following months of discussions with other families and individuals in a similar situation, we quickly came to the realisation that elder abuse was just the tip of the iceberg. The extent of abuse, neglect and exploitation of older Australians taking place, both inside and outside the home, inside care facilities and in the community at large, is Australia’s hidden shame.
While we have numerous organisations set up to protect vulnerable children, animals and in need special interest groups, the protection of older Australians has been neglected. It is time to act.
